De Gea insists Man Utd capable of Champions League comeback

Manchester United
goalkeeper David de Gea feels they're capable of defeating Champions League opponents Olympiacos tomorrow night.
The Reds have work to do in the second leg of the Champions League last 16 tie against the Greek champions after falling to a tame 2-0 defeat in Athens.
"We know we didnᄀᆵt play a good match in Greece," the goalkeeper told UEFA.com. "They were better than us and they won.
"But now there is the return leg at Old Trafford and I think that, with our fans behind us, we have to go onto the pitch and fight and attack from the first minute. By playing and pressing well, we still have a good chance.
"We will give everything we have and play a lot better than we did there. With the atmosphere and the team we have, we can succeed and hopefully reach the next round."

Man Utd player-coach Giggs furious over Moyes bust-up claims

Manchester United
player-coach Ryan Giggs is furious over claims of a bust-up with manager David Moyes.
The Manchester Evening News says Giggs is angry that the rumour mongers have turned to an alleged but unfounded break up of his relationship with the beleaguered manager as the latest focal point to fuel a crisis at the Reds and de-stabilise the Moyes regime.
Giggs was appointed to Moyesᄀᆵ coaching staff when he took over from Sir Alex Ferguson

Mabbutt calls for patience from Spurs fans

Former Tottenham
captain Gary Mabbutt has urged patience from fans.
Spurs face missing out on the top four this season.
Mabbutt told talkSPORT: "It is a work in progress. Our latest acquisitions - the seven or eight players we signed last summer - have been at the club for the last six months.
"All of us want things to happen immediately, but it doesn't happen that way in football. Look at Liverpool
. They were successful throughout the 80s, they have had a bit of a lull over these few years, but suddenly now they are developing, building up, and coming back to full strength. That is where we are at the moment."

Fulham winger Dejagah reveals greater defensive focus

Fulham
winger Askham Dejagah has revealed a new defensive role he's being asked to do.
Dejagah knows Felix Magath only too well from their time together in Germany where the manager earned a reputation as something of a slavedriver, and expects even more hard yards over the next vital six weeks.
Dejagah said: ᄀᄚThe manager said: ᄀᆴyour job is to score goals and work in defence as wellᄀᆵ. He told me this all the time and in Germany as well.
ᄀᄚThat is why he put me on the left side so I can I can cut in and shoot.
ᄀᄚItᄀᆵs not easy if you play every week with pressure, but maybe we can now be a little more relaxed in games."

Chunnamᄀᆵs Cornthwaite still holding World Cup hope

Robert Cornthwaite says he will do everything in his power to force his way into Australiaᄀᆵs World Cup
squad.
The 28-year old centre-back, currently with South Korean side Chunnam Dragons, has played for the Socceroos on eight occasions but is hoping he can string some solid months together in order to win a surprise call into Ange Postecoglouᄀᆵs roster for Brazil 2014.
ᄀᄚThe World Cup
is a few months away and the clock is ticking and people are running out of time,ᄀᄆ Cornthwaite told au.fourtfourtwo.com.
ᄀᄚBut until that squad is named in May, Iᄀᆵll be doing everything I can to get my name in there. The only way to do that is to start playing here regularly and playing well.
ᄀᄚThe K-League is a really competitive league, a high standard, so if Iᄀᆵm playing regularly thatᄀᆵll help. Itᄀᆵs always encouraging to see Wilko (Jeonbuk Hyundaiᄀᆵs Alex Wilkinson) or (Shandong Luneng) Ryan McGowan
, in China, get selected to know the selectors are watching.
ᄀᄚFingers crossed but even if things donᄀᆵt work out for the World Cup
, Iᄀᆵve still got my eye on the (2015) Asian Cup. Iᄀᆵm only 28 so I still feel like Iᄀᆵve got something to offer the Australia set-up if I get the chance.ᄀᄆ

FIFA insist no Qatar corruption for WC 2022

Eastern and Western conferences still extremely competitive at this stage.
Both the Eastern and Western conferences in MLS remain very close in the race for a play off position, attesting to the competitiveness of MLS.

Although some may bemoan the lack of a super-club in MLS, few can argue with the excitement that the relative parity between teams brings. Eight teams in both the Eastern and Western Conferences are in with a shout at making the play-off positions, and such a constantly changing competitive environment will help the development of the League as a whole. Last year’s MLS Cup finalists, LA Galaxy and Houston Dynamo, are both seeded 5th in their respective conferences.

Henry and Cahill could return in time for New York Red Bulls

Henry missed RBNY’s 2-0 loss to Columbus Crew.
New York Red Bulls could have two designated players back in contention for their home game against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, according to MLSsoccer. Henry missed Saturday’s 2-0 loss to the Columbus Crew due to an inflamed Achilles, and Tim Cahill has been out of contention since suffering a torn PCL in a tackle with Yordany Alvarez in the Bull’s match against Real Salt Lake at the end of July.

“I fully expect Thierry to be available this weekend, 100 percent,” said  Red Bulls coach Mike Petke. “It was something that I was aware of all (last) week. I didn’t know exactly what was going to happen and then on Thursday, we made a precautionary decision. It was acting up and we went with it.”
“Cahill practiced fully today, 100 percent, no limitations,” added Petke. “That’s a phenomenal sign, obviously. Judging by today’s performance. I’d expect a very good possibility that he’ll be available but we still have three practice sessions to go.”
Despite Cahill’s injury being the more severe of the two, Petke said that Henry’s is one that will always linger.
Still, Petke insisted he was not losing too much sleep over Henry’s recurring Achilles issues.
“It’s been lingering for years but I’m not overly concerned because the one thing I learned from Thierry is he’s finally at a place in his playing career where he wasn’t in the last couple years,” he said. “He would throw caution to the wind (in the past) and not worry about the next day just to get on the field and that’s when he gets the problems. That’s how I was as a player and that’s, in my mind, why I wasn’t able to play a bit longer.
“I’m not concerned. I think (resting him) was the right thing to do and that enables him to, what I consider, be 100 percent available for this weekend, a big game at home against Philly.”
Petke also reported that he would give an update on the fitness of Lloyd Sam on Thursday, who suffered a knock to his left quadriceps in his man of the match performance against Sporting Kansas City on August 3rd, which New York won 3-2.
